Hi! I’m Olivia.
I’m passionate about making our community a better place for everyone. I believe that by investing in public services, we can significantly improve our quality of life.
My focus will be on making a stronger community by helping those struggling in all aspects, whether it be the cost of living or addiction. I am a strong advocate for the idea that we move forward not competing with each-other but by cooperating with each-other to improve our local community.
I believe that councils should be doing more to help the local community, and helping them build a strong community. That is where my strengths lie — I really care about making our community better, rather than just making a bunch of promises.
Why vote for me?
A vote for me is a vote to tackle the core problems in our community, not just hot air.
Better council housing
Convert all council homes to Passivhaus standards to put an end to damp and mould endangerment and reduce energy costs long term – significantly reducing damp and mould and including solar panelling on every new build and council estate.
Passivhaus buildings are designed for high energy efficiency and comfort.
Key features include airtight construction, high-quality insulation, ventilation with heat recovery, thermal bridge-free design, and solar gain management.
These elements help maintain stable indoor temperatures, ensure good air quality, and reduce heating needs. Originating from Germany, Passivhaus standards also prevent damp and mould, offering long-term cost savings.
Bring back rehab centres and improve outreach
Reinstate drug rehabilitation centres and enhance support for addicts and people with significant mental health issues to ensure accessible, effective help.
Examples of support include:
1. Comprehensive Rehab Centres: Facilities offering integrated services—detox, therapy, job training, and housing assistance.
2. Mobile Outreach Units: Teams providing on-the-spot medical care, counselling, and referrals for addicts in various neighbourhoods.
3. Peer Support Networks: Community groups led by former addicts to provide mentorship and support.
Supporting health and leisure
Council-funded health and leisure activities, expanded in scope to include more activities – to keep us healthy and active, and add crèche care to help give access to parents.
Including kickboxing, figure skating, hockey Skating, horseback riding, dance classes, group cycling, tennis, yoga, boxing, rowing, golf, Pilates. Give people on benefits discounts and their first lesson free.
Every leisure facility should offer a crèche to improve the wellbeing of parents, especially parents on maternity leave – The crèche’s should have cameras linked to an app, enabling parents to monitor their child’s time there. This service would support parents’ mental health by providing short-term child care, allowing them to participate in activities to improve their physical and mental health.
Creating community events
The council should fund and support funding for events within the local community to provide a greater range of entertainment and help build community
The council funded events should include, Singers of Hackney, Artists of Hackney, DJ’s of Hackney, Math Competitions, dance competitions, science fairs, fashion shows, a Hackney Talent Competition two – three times per year, Sculptors of Hackney, Photographers of hackney, performing art’s, spelling Bee’s and so on. These events should be very fun community events serving food and drink and a place for people to come and socialise with their local community and network. In case of rain, a custom-sized pop-up canopy should be available during the summer months, and during the winter months, events should be relocated to an indoor facility.
⁃ Event Visibility should be done through a large LED digital, durable noticeboard, put in every park entrance.
– Unlike online platforms, which are highly saturated and often overlooked, these noticeboards will reach people during their daily routines. People
are more likely to see and engage with local events when they are prominently displayed in their immediate environment. This approach not only enhances event visibility but also
underscores the significance of community events and activities, this would ensure a happier and significantly more well informed community.
– Hackney should be hosting weekly summer festival/children friendly raves, with DJs, music, and fun fairs for families and children. Unlike the one-off summer festival, these weekly events should be held in parks or large venues, with discounts for those on universal credit. This will boost community spirit and support families’ well-being all summer long. An interesting concept would be to join the events up with the Sunday market, found in places like broadway market/Victoria Park market etc.
