About Steven Roy

A little about me and my connection to the Sheffield Heeley Constituency

I was born in the Northern General Hospital and initially lived with my parents in Hilsborough.

I grew up in the Sheffield Heeley Constituency.

At a young age I lived with my mother in Council accommodation off East Bank Road and when I was five years old we moved to Gleadless Valley to be closer to my Grandmother and Grandfather, who was a Steelworker.

I attended Hemsworth Infant and Junior Schools and Gleadless Valley Comprehensive, all of which were unfortunately closed down many years ago. Outside of school I played with friends in the local woods and in Herdings Park and Graves Park and went for walks down Lightwood Lane.

Whilst at Gleadless Valley School, I had football trials for Sheffield Boys. On Sundays I played football for Abbey Juniors football team (run from the Abbey Pub in Woodseats). Our manager was Graham Shaw, the Sheffield United and England defender, and we played our home matches in Lowedges Park.

In the summer holidays I played golf with my school friends at Beauchief and at Birley.
At age 16 we moved to live on Hemsworth Road, Norton, overlooking Graves Park.
Thanks to my father, I have always played a variety of sports and I went on to proudly play rugby for Sheffield RUFC.

I have worked as a Solicitor in England and abroad as an Attorney-At-Law.
I returned to Sheffield to care for both my parents, when they needed me.

What Motivates and Concerns Me?

Domestic Policy

I think it is clear to most people that the current system no longer works for the majority of people. Well paying meaningful jobs are scarce and the cost of living is crippling. Prices for the basics such as food, housing, utilities and transport are continually increasing, and the quality and efficiency of services is diminishing. Taxes are rising and yet things like NHS health and dental care are becoming increasingly difficult to access. Both NHS dental and medical services are slowly being stealthily privatised and many NHS staff and those working in private care are demoralised and demotivated. Things that we used to take for granted such as free higher education have been taken away. The main political parties don’t have any solutions for fixing things, because there are no solutions under the current system. The U.K. is burdened with large amounts of debt, its deindustrialised economy is stagnent, our infrastructure is crumbling and the signs of decline are visible in many city centres and communities around the country.

We need a system of governance that puts the interests of working people, which includes nearly everyone in society, at the heart of everything.
We need to change our mindsets to want to create a Society that works for people and not be accepting of one that is based in large on exploiting people for profit.
We need to create the Society that we want for ourselves and not one that is imposed upon us by corporations and people who do not care at all about us.
Don’t let anyone tell you that this cannot be achieved because it can, if we are all prepared to work together to achieve it.

If you keep voting in the same politicians and parties you will get the same results and you will only have yourselves to blame.
If you vote for the Workers Party GB you will be putting into motion something that will potentially transform the future for yourself for your children and for future generations. It is not often you can say this, but every vote for the Workers Party really does matter.
If you elect me I will work to influence government policy and I will work with you at a local level to effect the changes that you want to see happen in your communities.

Foreign Policy & Immigration

Foreign policy matters because it has enormous consequences on our everyday lives. This has never been more evident than it is today as we see the world order being reshaped literally on a daily basis. These are truly historic times but our politicians and our mainstream media don’t want to tell us the truth.

Instead they feed us with trivia and brainwashing propaganda in order to keep us ignorant, confused and on side with them and their super rich donors and backers

Our international relations are at an all time low and our reputation abroad in tatters.
Our foreign policy is a disaster. We have failed to capitalise on such benefits as Brexit had to offer and have alienated those countries from whom we could gain the most benefit by way of trade and imports of cheap energy, food and fertilisers, technology etc.

We should be working with the rest of the world and in particular with BRICS+ to create a better multipolar world of prosperous independent sovereign countries from which everyone will benefit through peaceful commerce.

For all the good America has done and can do in the future, the American led hegemonic, super imperialist system since the end of World War Two has sadly manifested itself in wars, coups, sanctions, political interference, corruption and impoverishment. This has led to mass migration, with people taking things out on the migrates themselves, when the blame actually lies with the people who govern us here in the West.

Working with countries to help them develop by entering into mutually beneficial commercial arrangements, as opposed to keeping them in perpetual dependence and exploiting them for their resources and cheap labour, is not only the right way forward, it will significantly reduce, if not totally eliminate the mass flow of immigration around the world. Instead of immigration being driven by wars and poverty and lack of prospects, it will be driven by choices based on things like specialist job opportunities, education and wanting to experience different cultures and ways of living.

To put it as succinctly as possible, the war in Ukraine is an aggressive NATO proxy war aimed at Russia and China. The Ukrainian people generally have been brainwashed over many years with a false nationalistic, Neo Nazi ideology, a fake European dream and then sent to be murdered and maimed in their millions for the sake of Western financial and geopolitical interests.

I apologise if I have upset any Ukrainians with these comments, but I state them precisely because I care about every one of them. I regard what has happened as a tragedy, one that could have very easily been avoided, had it not been for Western Foreign interference, Capitalist exploitation, corruption and greed.

To see what these forces have done to turn Ukraine from a once united peaceful country into a divided, hate filled, fascistic state that ultimately destroys its own people, their society and the country itself is one of the most horrific tragedies, and war crimes of our time and probably of all history and it is something that everyone should be really worried and concerned about as it could happen anywhere.

The Western strategic and operational military planning has achieved nothing. Most of the expensive NATO equipment supplied to Ukraine has been ineffectual and has been destroyed and NATO is facing a catastrophic defeat that may well result in it being disbanded.

We can do without NATO, which requires member countries to spend at least 2% of their GDP on mainly American made weapons. The Ukraine war has shown NATO to be ineffectual and a vast waste of money. National security can be secured in much cheaper and more effective ways, and not least by skilful and effective diplomacy.

George Galloway has been the only British mainstream political figure who has told the truth about Ukraine. This is hard to believe but it is true and not surprising once you understand the nature and extent of the blanket of propaganda that is put over us.

It follows that all other politicians from each of other parties and their party machinery are complicit in the aforementioned war crimes that have been committed against the Ukrainian people, because by keeping quiet they have played their part in falsely manufacturing a general consent amongst the British Public for the continuation of the war and of the mass slaughter of Ukrainians and Russians. If any of them had any honesty or integrity they would either have spoken the truth or they would have resigned a long time ago

Sheffield City Council as a body, including Councillors from all the main Political Parties, have perpetuated the lies and propaganda concerning Ukraine.

Sheffield is twinned with Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine. Since the commencement of a civil war in the East of Ukraine in 2014, launched against them by the fascist Kiev Regime, Sheffield City Council has done nothing to stand up for Donetsk as the people, many of them coal miners and steel workers stood up to this onslaught.

Moreover last year Sheffield City Council thought that it was a good idea to effectively switch sides and to abandon Donetsk altogether by enter into a provisional twinning arrangement with a City in the West of Ukraine, whose mayor is a member of the Neo Nationalist Svaboda Party, and who wholly supports the Kiev Regime.

Sheffield City Council have also permitted an Alley of Angels memorial to be erected in the Sheffield City Centre, which takes its name from a memorial erected in Donetsk to commemorate the children who had been killed by the deliberate shelling of schools, homes and public areas by the Kiev Regime.

In a perverse and cynical form of propaganda, which mocks the people of Donetsk, the memorial in Sheffield is stated to be for the children of Ukraine killed by the Russians.

Just as the war in Ukraine did not start out of the blue in February 2022, so the history of occupation and resistance against it in Gaza did not start on October 7th 2023. In both cases there is a long complicated history that the mainstream media and the politicians try to conceal, replacing it with a simple false narrative.

In the case of the Palestinians, they have been resisting a brutal violent illegal colonial settlement of their ancestral lands and the brutal extermination of their culture, ethnic cleansing and genocide. The right of Palestinians to resist is enshrined in International law.

My wish would be for a peaceful resolution of all conflicts in the Middle East, a peace that is negotiated by the people who live in the region, free from any nefarious outside interference.

How can we put our trust and faith in any British Politician or any Party that has not at the very least strongly spoken out against, let alone done something about, the killing and mutilation of men women and babies in Gaza and in the destruction of hospitals schools, churches, mosques, and the targeted killing of hospital staff, teachers and journalists, and expect them to really care about us and our children and families.

How can anyone vote Labour, when, beyond the comprehension of any right thinking person with any shred of humanity, the Labour controlled Sheffield City Council flew an Israel flag above the Town Hall at the very same time that Israel was dropping bombs on women and babies in Gaza.

The Price of War

The conduct of the wars both in Ukraine and in Palestine has come at great cost to the taxpayers. Arms manufacturers and their shareholders make vast fortunes from killing and the tendency it seems is for money to disappear into black holes, with little or no accountability and widespread corruption.

The common term for such schemes money laundering. This money could and should have been spent at home building and improving things, creating jobs, educating our children, providing, cheaper housing, healthcare and better working conditions.

The unprecedented in scale and scope of sanctions that were imposed upon Russia were part of the hybrid plan to strategically weaken Russia alongside the proxy war.

The sanctions were ill thought out and have ended up backfiring upon us leading to increased prices, inflation and a further squeeze on the cost of living. The response of the politicians has been to cover up this disastrous miscalculation and the blame Putin for everything that goes wrong everywhere. This is a further sad reflection of the utter incompetence of those leading our country and the West generally. We need to get the broom out, so to speak, have a complete clean up and to put people in positions of power and responsibility who are honest and who know what they are doing and who genuinely want to serve the interests of the people they purport to represent.

This country deserves change — part of the way you can contribute towards that is by voting for a party that actually stands by what it says. That opposes the genocide in Gaza, and wants real change, right now.

Our Key Policies

Decent, Affordable Social Housing

Social Housing was something this country pioneered back in the day. We want to return to this, but with a modern twist, to provide affordable, cost-effective housing produced for people to live in, but using automation to meet the high demand for housing due to a failed free-market system.

Nationalise the NHS

The NHS has been broken into a million pieces — all of them private. It’s time to return the NHS back into public hands, do away with all of the expensive and convoluted market systems within it, and turn it back into a system which is responsive to the people, and for which, parliament is responsible. No more highly-expensive and useless PFI contracts.

Community-led Redevelopment

We will deliver mass-produced housing which will be affordable, and will provide families with homes of good quality. This will be done not by wasteful investment projects or private firms, but with automation and community-led building plans so that what gets developed in a community is what the community want, not what multi-national corporations want.

Bring in Children’s Online Wellbeing Act

We want to protect our children from addictive social media that leads to mental health, lack of confidence and self-harm issues. We want to limit enhanced content and all advertising to under-18s. That means taking on big Social Media companies in the Parliament to protect our future.

None of the mainstream parties would dare take on big corporate social media companies. This reason alone should be enough for you to vote for an independent party this election.

Stop the Genocide in Gaza

We are not afraid to call it what it is – Genocide! Most people agree with us, but the mainstream parties are simply ignoring the people. Make your vote Count! We do, by also supporting students!

Starmer’s Labour stands for relative reticence to criticise Israel. He said they have the right to cut off all water, food and electricity. He has never condemned any of the bombing of refugee camps killing hundreds at a time. That is unforgivable.

Reduce Bills – Nationalise the Utilities

Water and the Rail sectors are the prime examples of disastrous privatisation by Labour and the Tories. We stand for nationalising the utilities.

Labour – a supposedly left-wing party, can’t even name 3 industries they would nationalise.
